Innovative Irrigation Technology Impresses Scientists at IARI-CATAT.

New Delhi, June 13, 2024 — A groundbreaking meeting was held at the Centre for Agricultural Technology Assessment and Transfer (CATAT) of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) with Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, Head of CATAT, and his team of scientists. The meeting highlighted the presentation of a new innovative irrigation technology by an emerging tech company, aiming to revolutionize crop yield and farmers' income through advanced drip irrigation systems.

During the meeting, the company's representative detailed the innovative product and its associated technology, garnering significant interest and appreciation from the scientific team at CATAT. The team expressed enthusiasm about the potential benefits and shown a strong interest in engaging with the company for device validation.

Collaboration and Validation
The IARI-CATAT team proposed an internal validation process for the device. This process will involve both controlled environments within the institute and practical applications on farm fields, in collaboration with progressive farmers. This dual approach ensures comprehensive assessment and fine-tuning of the technology in real-world conditions.

Presentation and Simplification Request
To facilitate broader understanding and support, the CATAT team requested a simplified version of the product presentation. This version should clearly illustrate the unit economics, particularly focusing on yield increase and the resultant boost in farmers' income with and without the use of the device in drip irrigation. Emphasis was placed on making the presentation accessible and easy to understand.

Upcoming Engagements
In a bid to expand the technology's reach and application, the company has been invited to present their innovation to a larger group of scientists from approximately 25 different departments of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and IARI in the second week of July. This opportunity is expected to further validate and showcase the technology's potential across diverse agricultural disciplines.

Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Mode
In a promising development, CATAT expressed a willingness to partner with the company in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. As an initial step, CATAT will acquire 2-3 devices on a free-of-charge basis for preliminary testing. Upon successful validation, CATAT plans to purchase additional units, demonstrating confidence in the technology's potential.

Access to Progressive Farmers
The meeting also opened doors to potential market opportunities. CATAT provided details of 40 innovative farmers from across the country, who were recently awarded by IARI on June 6. These farmers represent a significant potential customer base for the company's advanced irrigation device, paving the way for broader adoption and impact.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge technology in Indian agriculture. The positive reception and planned validation by IARI-CATAT underscore the potential of the new irrigation technology to enhance crop yields and improve farmers' livelihoods, contributing to the advancement of sustainable farming practices in India.
